BEAUTIFUL, HANDMADE PRODUCTS FROM FEMALE ARTISANS IN TUNISIA.
There is a lot to be said about handcrafted products. They tend to be well made than mass produced products. They also tend to last for many years, some even being passed down from generation to generation. I’ll give you an example. My great-grandfather was a wood carver. He craved a wood chain from a single piece fo wood. It’s BEAUTIFUL! I wish I had a photo to share of it. That wood chain has been passed around from one family member to another. It looks as beautiful as it did when I was a child. I can see that wood chain continuing to be passed down from generation to generation. I think it’s a beautiful way to connect family members, even if they never met in person.
There is a brand of home decor products and tagines (earthenware cooking vessel which originated in North Africa – PICTURED ABOVE), dippers and trays that are exquisitely handmade by female artisans in Tunisia (northernmost country in Africa). The brand is called Kamsah.
Kamsah has a variety of products available for consumers. One of their most popular designs is their Hamsa dippers.
If you are not familiar with a Hamsa, a Hamsa is five-fingered hand design that was created by the ancient Greeks and Romans. Ancient Greeks and Romans first saw the five-fingered hand as a sign of protection almost three thousand years ago, bringing its wearers happiness, peace, and prosperity. The symbol has become iconic throughout the Mediterranean and the world.
I first learned of the Hamsa from my daughter. She has several pieces of jewelry featuring the Hamsa design. I love the idea of it bringing (ideally) happiness, peace and prosperity. I think we all could use some of that.
Kamsah has a beautiful line of Hamsa dipping sets that look like works of art. In addition, they have other dipper designs available.
